Tammie Wiley,
MD, FAAP
Pediatrician and Managing Partner
Winston-Salem, NC
Tammie Wiley, MD, FAAP is a board-certified pediatrician and managing partner with Winston-Salem Pediatrics in North Carolina.
Growing up in the rural foothills of North Carolina's Appalachian Mountains, Dr. Wiley’s experience with the extreme poverty of some in her community led her to pursue a career in which she could be a voice for those silenced by circumstances and lack of resources.
Dr. Wiley earned an undergraduate degree at Wake Forest University majoring in Health and Sport Science and developed a passion for preventive medicine, recognizing the association between prevention and improved health outcomes for individuals and communities. She attended medical school at Bowman Gray School of Medicine and selected the field of pediatrics with the goal of helping children learn to apply preventative practices early in life.
After completion of her residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, she accepted a position in rural Yadkinville, NC as the first and only pediatrician in the area. She cared for clinic-based patients, served as a founding member of the Yadkin Stop Child Abuse Now board of directors, and helped manage the high-risk pediatric population presenting to the local emergency department. Her willingness to make after hours house calls for those without transportation earned her the nickname "Medicine Woman" among colleagues. Wanting to have more flexibility in individualizing care, she joined Winston-Salem Pediatrics, an independent physician-led pediatric practice established in 1970. Half of the children served by the practice are covered by Medicaid.
Dr. Wiley became a CCPN Board of Manager in July 2024.
